Civil Infrastructure, Water and Urban Development |
"We develop custom solutions which carefully consider sociocultural issues."
Herbert Beckmann, AGEG shareholder
••• Infrastructure, community and
urban development frequently suffer from inadequate planning. This leads to
dramatic deficiencies in transportation or supply of electricity and clean
water, for example. In 1950, 70 per cent of the global population still lived in the
countryside. Since 2006, over half of the world's population has been living in
cities. According to UN forecasts, this share will grow to 60 per cent by 2030.
Urban poverty is increasing, often just representing the continuation of rural
poverty. Infrastructure improvements and community development in rural areas
are indispensable for reducing the push factors for migration into cities. At the
same time, however, city space and community planning in developing and
transition countries also have to be improved significantly.
••• We use our knowledge to ensure
that living space, transportation and supply routes keep up with changing
requirements and to strengthen sustainable social networks. We develop and realise
neighbourhood-oriented, socially responsible and environmentally appropriate
solutions like those pursued by Agenda 21 or the UN Centre for Human
Settlements, HABITAT. Our core expertise includes developing know-how and
structures for community development and city planning along with support of
decentralisation processes. In planning infrastructure measures, we offer
technical expertise alongside the latest knowledge and responsiveness from the
social sciences.
