“We care for sustainable use of natural resources to improve local livelihoods.”Paul Borsy, Technical Advisor for AGEG in Paraguay••• The majority of the world’s underprivileged live in rural areas. Reducing poverty by 50 per cent by 2015, as defined in the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals and the German government’s Programme of Action 2015, requires an increased focus on rural development. Guiding principles are sustainable livelihood and adequate use of land, forests and water in combination with good governance. ••• We are working at local, national and international levels to achieve these goals. All our activities are aligned with the international agreements and policies regarding climate protection, combating desertification, conservation of biodiversity and sustainable management of forests. AGEG’s efforts in its Natural Resources and Rural Development department focus on eradicating extreme poverty while ensuring ecological sustainability and economic development. Whether working with local actors, supporting international conferences and further education programmes or contributing to regional initiatives – together with our partners, we are facing up to the challenges that will determine the future of our planet.
