Background :

Within this Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), AGEG Consultants eG and the Egyptian Company Orascom Hotels & Development aims to implement an environmentally and economically sustainable Management System in the hotel industry in Egypt. According to the agreement of the companies participating in the PPP Project, a tailor-made eco-label will be developed and tested in the pilot region El Gouna with the future aim to make it extendable to the Egyptian hotel sector. Dissemination of the environmental standards will be accomplished through a train-the-trainer programme and a handbook in close cooperation with all concerned stakeholders such as the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency and the Egyptian Tourism Authority.

 

Services rendered :

  • Environmental assessment of the project hotels
  • Analysis and evaluation of the infrastructure (water, wastewater, sewage treatment, garbage management) of the pilot destination El Gouna
  • Set-up of a management, guideline and criteria concept applicable to the Egyptian hotel industry
  • Development of an eco-label concept and implementation of a country-specific eco-label for the pilot destination El Gouna as a model for the Egyptian hotel industry
  • Provision of curricula for tailor-made training modules directed at three different target groups (dual training system) within the hotel management school
  • Introduction of a train-the-trainer module for the qualification of the teaching and training staff of various hotel chains
  • Establishment of a practical guideline manual for the implementation and management of the eco-label's criteria
  • Development of a communication and marketing strategy as well as marketing tools to support the hotels introducing the eco-label
