Background :
The programme aims at conservation of
biodiversity and natural resources in the Katavi-Rukwa National Park and its
buffer zone while improving local livelihoods. It assists TANAPA (Tanzania
National Parks), the wildlife division and local communities to manage the
natural resources in the Katavi-Rukwa conservation complex and the adjacent
Lukwati Game Reserve in a sustainable manner. Major elements of support are
community based wildlife management, biodiversity monitoring, buffer-zone
development, and capacity-building.
Services Rendered :
- Project
implementation, provision of long-term and short-term experts
- Measures to
improve management and infrastructure of the protected areas
- Development
of a GIS-based biodiversity monitoring system
- Measures to
enable local communities to participate in the management of natural resources
and to benefit from them
- Development
of a model for practical co-operation between TANAPA and the Wildlife Division
in the co-management of eco-systems
- Support to
improvement of livelihoods of local communities in the buffer zones
- Introduction of a M&E system with regard to
achievements within Tanzania's PRSP
